A special community awareness program dedicated to child
protection and welfare was successfully conducted on June 19, 2025, at
the Gorakaoya Sri Sugatha Bimbarama Temple within the Kotmale West
Divisional Secretariat Division. The event was organized by the Department of
Social Welfare, Probation and Child Care Services of the Central Province and
was held under the distinguished patronage of the Provincial Commissioner.
The primary objective of this initiative was to educate
vulnerable communities and streamline the welfare services provided by the
department. During the session, officials raised extensive awareness regarding
two key support programs targeted at uplifting low-income families:
- Educational
Assistance Scheme: Educating and identifying eligible beneficiaries to provide
financial and educational aid for school-going children from low-income
backgrounds.
- Housing
Assistance Project: Providing housing grants specifically aimed at ensuring a safe,
secure, and protective living environment for children belonging to
underprivileged families.
This collaborative effort reflects the ongoing commitment of
both provincial and divisional authorities to safeguard child rights, alleviate
financial barriers to education, and ensure a secure future for the children of
the Kotmale West division.
