On November 12, 2025, the Kothmale West Divisional
Secretariat took a major step toward rural empowerment by conducting a
specialized awareness programme for field officers. This session focused on the
implementation of the "Daya Namvana Sapiri Gamak" (An Accomplished
Village that Uplifts the Nation) Community Productivity Model Village
Programme.
For this prestigious national development initiative, Gammeddagama
village, situated within the Rawanagoda East Grama Niladhari (GN)
Division, has been selected as the model site for the Kothmale West region.
Empowering Field Officers for Effective Implementation
Field officers serve as the vital link between state policy
and rural communities. The primary objective of this awareness programme was to
equip these officers with the strategic knowledge and productivity tools
required to drive sustainable development in Gammeddagama.
The briefing session focused on key operational areas,
including:
- Enhancing
Community Productivity: Introducing efficient methodologies to optimize local
resources, agriculture, and small-scale industries.
- Socio-Economic
Development:
Identifying the specific needs of the Gammeddagama villagers to improve
infrastructure, health, and livelihood opportunities.
- Public-Community
Synergy:
Establishing a streamlined workflow where Grama Niladhari officers,
Development Officers, and Samurdhi managers work hand-in-hand with
residents.
Building the Ideal Model Village
The "Daya Namvana Sapiri Gamak" concept aims to
create self-reliant, economically stable, and highly productive village units
that contribute directly to the national economy. By transforming Gammeddagama
into a model village, the Secretariat intends to establish a benchmark for
sustainable rural development that can later be replicated across other areas
of Kothmale West.
"The success of rural transformation lies in the
dedication of our field teams. With proper guidance and community cooperation,
we are confident that Gammeddagama will emerge as a beacon of productivity and
prosperity."
